Hired in 1985, Reed was formerly the assistant fire chief of San Jose, Ca. Recently, she has broken the glass ceiling by becoming the first female fire chief for the City of Oakland as well as the first African American female to head a metropolitan fire department (a department that has at least 400 members). Oakland has over 500 firefighters.
Chief Reed is the person holding the white hat wearing glasses (chiefs' hats are white). Standing to Chief Reed's right is Fire Chief Debra Pryor from Berkeley, Ca. The remaining women are lieutenants, captains and battalion chiefs from San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and as far away as Atlanta. There are over 37,000 fire departments throughout the globe, Chief Reed is only the second woman of color to head a metropolitan department globally. Click for more Congratulations Chief Reed! MSU Welcomes Interim President  Dr. Richard Sours has been named MSU Interim President by the Board of Trustees. "I'm certainly gratified and pleased at the confidence that the board has demonstrated in me to offer me the position," Sours said.
